Read HB2 Here

HB2 is a Texas bill that introduces an education savings account (ESA) program, allowing parents to use state funds for private or alternative schooling. It also proposes a modest increase in public school funding, raising the basic allotment from $6,160 to $6,380 per student. While it offers more school choice, critics argue that the funding for ESAs could divert resources from public schools, leaving the increase in funding effectively neutral and not addressing deeper issues in public education.

Blog About HB2 vs SB2

HB2 introduces an education savings account (ESA) program, allowing parents to use state funds for private schooling, while modestly increasing funding for public schools. However, critics argue that the $1 billion allocated for ESAs could harm public schools by diverting resources away from them. The debate highlights the challenge of balancing parental choice with maintaining a strong public education system.

I believe the idea of school choice is great, but not at the expense of harming our public education system. Why can’t we find innovative ways to fund school choice without tapping into the public education budget? Our teachers and public schools are already tasked with being innovative with fewer resources—shouldn't we prioritize supporting them first?
